encounter - 우연히 만나다, 맞닥뜨리다.

 

encounter는 예상하지 못한 만남이나 우연한 만남을 의미하는 경우가 많다.

 

I encountered an old friend at the convenience store.
나는 편의점에서 오래된 친구를 만났다.

During their hike in the dense forest, they encountered a rare species of bird they had never seen before.
울창한 숲을 하이킹하는 동안,  그들은 본 적이 없는 희귀한 새를 만났다.
